Rome Day 2

Read page 155-159 and answer questions 1, 3, 4, and 5. 1.  Terms and Names Republic- A   form of government in which power rest with citizens who have the right to vote for their leaders. Patrician- Wealthy landowners who hold most of the power. Plebeians- Common farmers, artisans, and merchants who made up the majority of the population. Tribunes- Elect representatives. Consul- Commanded the army and directed the government for one year. Senate- The aristocratic branch of Rome's government. Dictator- Leader who had absolute power to make laws and command an army. Legion- The soldiers of Rome. Punic Wars- The wars fought between Rome and Carthage. Hannibal- A fearsome military leader of Carthage. 3. What limits were there on the power of the Roman Consuls? Day 1- Rome

Read page 152-153. Write out main ideas and the timeline (Rome only). Start reading 155-159. Main Ideas: Power and Authority- Rome began as a republic, a government in which elected officials represent the people. Eventually rulers called emperors seized power and expanded the empire. Empire Building- At it's height, the roman empire touched three continents, Europe, Asia, and Africa. For several centuries, Rome brought peace and prosperity to it's empire before it's eventual collapse. Religious and Ethical Systems- Out of Judea rose a monotheistic, or single god, religion known as christianity. Based on the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, it soon spread through Rome and beyond.  Timeline: 509 B.C. - Rome becomes a republic. 264 B.C. - First Punic War begins. 218 B.C. - In the second Punic War, Hannibal invades Italy. 31 B.C. - Octavian defeats the forces of Anthony and Cleopatra.  284 ...
Today in class we got our test and project grades back and then we began to learn about Rome by listening to a rap mr schick made. Before the rap we talked about what we are doing during the ten days mr schick is out (4/29-5/9)
Today in class we took the test on Ancient Greece. I didn't really study for it until Friday morning. I think that I failed but its fine because im in a good mood and its spring break. I have a hundred in this class and do all my blogs so I think ill still have an A.

REVIEW FOR TEST

Today in class we went over the work sheet we got in class yesterday. We also continued to take notes on section 4 and section 5. Our test is on Friday and I think im going to do really really bad so hopefully I can find some time to study.
In class, we prepared for our test by taking notes on section 3-5 in the textbook and completing a worksheet. We also answered questions on what we had out of the text book. Our test is on Friday!

Today in class we watched a rap about Greece. It was actually a fun class and we didn't really do anything else after.
We were supposed to watch the last Greece presentation today but due to people being absent we got to do text book work instead. Reading out of the book is BORING but very HELPFUL when it comes to the test. I was half asleep during class so I took pictures of the text book so I can finish taking notes on the last page and answer the questions. These are the questions we answered 1.Define:  Direct democracy- citizens can make decisions classical art-style of art in Ancient Greece and Rome tragedy- sad comedy- funny Peloponnesian war- war between Athens and Sparta philosopher- Socrates- plato- Aristotle- 3. The steps that Pericles took to strengthen democracy in Athens were increasing the number of public officials. 4. Today in class we did more presentations. We were the first group to go and I think we did pretty well. Then two other groups went. Jackson and Quinn did the olympics, Ella's group did art and then Sydney and Brysen made us food that wasn't even bad. Honestly I expected it to be worse. Everyone so far has done very good presentations and we only have a few left to go!
