Today in class we read about Hammurabi's code in the text book to review background information on what they are in order to complete a worksheet. Hammurabi's code was the first set of written laws. We took crime and laws that were broken in that time period and decided what we thought a fair punishment would be using our laws and methods from our time period. Many people thought that fines and jail were the best consequences but there were still some people who decided chopping off body parts and beating people was the best way to go.

Read page 155-159 and answer questions 1, 3, 4, and 5. 1.  Terms and Names Republic- A   form of government in which power rest with citizens who have the right to vote for their leaders. Patrician- Wealthy landowners who hold most of the power. Plebeians- Common farmers, artisans, and merchants who made up the majority of the population. Tribunes- Elect representatives. Consul- Commanded the army and directed the government for one year. Senate- The aristocratic branch of Rome's government. Dictator- Leader who had absolute power to make laws and command an army.
