Day 8 Read 178-183 and answer questions 1 & 5 1. Define Greco-Roman Culture- The mixing of elements of Greek, Hellenistic, and roman culture to produce this new culture. Pompeii- A town that got covered in thick ash after Vesuvius erupted. Virgil- A poet who spent ten years writing the Aeneid. Tacitus- Roman historian who presented accurate facts. Aqueduct- Bring water into cities and towns. 5. What influence did latin have on the development of western languages? Latin was developed into many different languages. In English, we have many words that come from latin.

Day 7 Discuss this topic: The United States is declining, like the Roman Empire did. You may agree or disagree, but give a solid reason. I believe that in some ways the Unites States is declining, like the Roman Empire but in other ways the United States is doing well. I think that for the United States, our education and military is doing well, but our health and government is declining. The United States has many public schools which makes it easy for everyone to get a basic education. I think that having knowledgeable people is something that is needed to keep our government from declining. With out education, we might have made the same mistakes as the Romans did back then. Our health is a big concern that could cause the U.S. over all to decline. Health is important to keep everyone doing well. Mercenary- A foreign soldier that is working for money/payment. Diocletian- A strong army leader who is also an emperor. Constantinople- Capitol of Rome. Attila- Threat to the empire. 3. They were trying to flee and escape from Attila and crossed into The ROman empire.
